Timing guide: the morning recaps (1440, Globe Morning Update, TLDR, TLDR Dev) describe Monday and overnight; the Globe breaking alerts, B.C. Insider, On Money and The Evening report Tuesday. Last night's digest ended at about 7:02 PM Monday, so Monday-evening items that arrived after that are included here.

πŸ—žοΈ GENERAL SUMMARY & TOP HIGHLIGHTS

Picking up from last night's digest (Mon Oct 26, ~7:05 PM), which led with the Anthropic prospectus, the Comey cases, and Netanyahu/Iran on the eve of Israel's vote.

New today β€” Israel's election ends in apparent deadlock. Israelis voted Tuesday, and the exit polls β€” per the Globe's alert β€” show neither Netanyahu nor challenger Gadi Eisenkot on track for a majority in the 120-seat Knesset, which could leave Netanyahu in power as caretaker while coalitions are built. The Evening adds that the exit polls actually show the opposition bloc narrowly ahead, including two mostly Arab parties at a record 17–18 seats combined, that turnout was a record, and that the official hand-count is expected Thursday. ↻ This closes the loop on last night's thread (Netanyahu pressing for a strike on Iran before the vote): a close, slow count means the strike question stays unresolved for days.

↻ Following up: Anthropic's IPO. Last night's digest had the headline numbers ($16.3B first-half revenue, $80.7B loss, $807B of compute commitments). New since then: the 400-page filing was made Monday, with a possible debut as soon as the week before Thanksgiving β€” 1440 says the week of Nov. 16 β€” on Nasdaq under the planned ticker "ANT", at a valuation expected between $1.5T and $2T. Two reported customers, Microsoft and SpaceX, account for about a fifth of revenue, the loss is largely accounting adjustments, and the filing warns the models could pose "catastrophic or existential risks". Tomasz Tunguz offers a seven-metric comparison. Related AI-money news: DoorDash is in advanced talks to buy Instacart (~US$17B), and ↻ Microsoft's voluntary buyouts are now described as targeting roughly 60,000 employees (about a quarter of its workforce; Microsoft expects under 30% to accept).

New today β€” U.S. politics and policy. The Evening reports that Trump is expected to loosen the methane rules for oil and gas producers, one of his most significant climate rollbacks. ↻ On the midterms (one week out, Nov. 3): 1440 notes 30M+ Americans have already voted and Georgia's early vote is ~95% in person; The Evening says state and local officials are training poll workers for possible federal-officer interference, and RFK Jr.'s Michigan comments about Arabs drew sharp rebuttals. On the Comey cases (already covered last night), the only new wrinkle is 1440's note that this is the third charge against James Comey.

↻ Canada, two follow-ups. Toronto: Monday night's Globe alert and Tuesday's Morning Update confirm Olivia Chow won a second term over Brad Bradford (last night's digest only said Toronto was voting). Indian Act: after Monday's first ministers/First Nations meeting, Carney said he is open to repealing or reforming the Indian Act, calling it racist and anachronistic; Kinew says a replacement could take years, and the meeting also brought new revenue-sharing pledges and billions for emergency preparedness, jobs and policing. Also new: Canada–U.S. trade talks have resumed, though auto-parts lobbyist Flavio Volpe warns against accepting earlier terms such as a reduced 15% levy on non-U.S. content in Canadian vehicles; and Industry Minister MΓ©lanie Joly is demanding Cleveland-Cliffs present a plan to restore Stelco jobs before she'll meet (175 laid-off Hamilton workers).

↻ B.C. aftermath and Brazil. B.C.: the Globe's Tuesday B.C. Insider leads with Premier-elect Doerkson's vows on finances and a West Coast pipeline; Capital Daily puts turnout at 48.12%, lowest in three decades, with Conservatives taking a 63-seat majority (last night's digest cited 64 per the Globe's 99%-of-polls count β€” figures are still being finalized); Doerkson also condemned a Sunday white-nationalist gathering at the legislature. Brazil: The Evening says defeated candidate FlΓ‘vio Bolsonaro, who refused to concede, has fled to the U.S. after authorities asked him to surrender his passport in an investigation; 1440 again cites the 14% plunge in Brazilian stocks.

Smaller items: Jay-Z will headline the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show (Feb. 14; NYT alert Monday 7:06 PM PT); Harry Kane won the Ballon d'Or and the Brewers lead the World Series 3–0 (Game 4 is tonight); Canada received its first two F-35s; Serbia's student-led opposition won parliamentary elections and VučiΔ‡ conceded; and Halloween candy prices are up ~15% from last year.
